'shifting the Shamelessness' light of shadow project 2007 : organized by designersparty show at BMH

The name of this whole project is "Light of Shadow Project".

'light of shadow project'
Initiated from the remnant of light, a shadow, this project is organized by 24 designers of the DP Network Community.
They have had four months of preparations, a workshop to understand technological matters to produce their work for this exhibition.
It also works as a first project to make an approach to domestic and international organizations, companies. It will be an ongoing annual project and will be occasionally introduced through our website.
Furthermore, we dream of experiencing our own growth by active social proposals to designers and related companies.

Four types of Advanced Project planned until the end of 2007.
1. Skin, Wear, Layer, Cover: tangible or intangible interpretations of a skin or layer in manner of expansion.
2. Invisible
3. Street: a challenge to tangible/intangible systems, apart from objects.

'shifting the Shamelessness'
light of shadow project 2007

SHAMELESS;

Being cheeky, audacious, obscene, immoral.

To shift the ugliness. 'Shifting the Shamelessness'. (suggested by Hyoung-Seok, Kim.)
To throw away our past full of shame and disgrace.
This fits as an extension to the light of shadow project.
'Shifting the Shamelessness'. It is a dawn for Korean design, rising from the shadow beneath the darkness. We suggest it be the major task and direction for Korean designers.

Like the boat of ferryman Charon that sails to the underworld...
Like Ichthyostega which wavers near the water plant but soon decides to discover the unknown. In order to bear the gravity, its fin evolved into legs.
This is the start of mankind, born from an adventure of the undiscovered...
It is time to forget the century of shame and disgrace, put aside the proud of our two millennium history and get on with the big adventure.

Despite the importance of lighting, it is hard to admit that no firm development or design plans were ever made in the past. It was never even intended.
In terms of lighting design, Korea is still beginning its first step.
Thanks to promotions by enthusiastic designers and companies, Korea has begun to reveal its design competitiveness within the global design market. The nation's growth and expansion of cultural infrastructure has proved a steady advance of prominence.

Planning such lighting project at a point where global curiosity and interest arise, the intension of it is to prove that Korean design can bring change to the world and become the center of it. It is a first project to materialize concrete consciousness of who we are, with a pioneering mind towards the future and world, the mind that Koreans lacked for the past two millenniums.

To be more frank, with criticism against the struggle of Korean design, colonized by foreign point of view, concrete design proposals to political, cultural, social realities that contemporary Korean face in such global era will be the main point of the projects we plan.

Additionally, designers will develop a new culture, an interpretation from the mother culture and the aesthetics, rather than repeating the western cliches and superficial images that we are familiar with.

Design and society is a cultural co-existing community, a society's guaranteed identity. Design is vital which tends to keep on changing, which faces birth and death, disappearance within organic mutual relations.
Design and society will keep on developing together as a vital community.

Designers will encounter society in a concrete manner and will this project will turn out to be a chance to prove him/her in means of self-certification.

This show will give self-certification for Korean design and designers, proposing new directions for the identical cultural life.
It will be an ongoing annual project and each of the designers' homepage will introduce every project. The main idea is to focus on the progress by working closely with designers and related companies, making social proposals through the projects as we watch ourselves develop.
